Iran, June 22, 2018 - As the 38^th annual United Nations Human Rights Council session begins in Geneva, and on the verge of the 30^th anniversary of the 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners in Iran based on the criminal order issued by Iranian regime founder Ruhollah Khomeini, three UN advisor organizations issued a statement officially recognizing this atrocity and calling for an international probe to place those responsible before justice.

It’s Time For The United States To Lead In Condemning A Long-Neglected Crime In Iran

The latest session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began this week and, unfortunately, it has been preceded by a very poor decision. The schedule of speakers includes Alireza Avayi. Despite holding the title of Justice Minister in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Avayi is himself an egregious violator of human rights. He has been sanctioned by the European Union for a number of reasons, but undoubtedly the worst incident on his record is his role in the mass execution of political prisoners in 1988.

The clerical regime’s Foreign Ministry on Friday reacted to the UN Secretary-General's report on human rights violations in Iran and the massacre of the political prisoners in 1988. Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, appeared on TV network, tried to identify the sources mentioned by Antonio Guterres report prepared for the ongoing meeting of the UN Human Rights Council meeting,

as "invalid and worthless." He added that the report is based on "unreliable, false and completely invalid sources" and is politically-motivated.

Protesters rally after Iranian minister addresses UN rights body

Geneva, Reuters, February 28, 2018 - As Iran’s justice minister addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, protesters rallied outside against the senior official who is on European Union and Swiss sanctions lists over alleged involvement in violations including arbitrary arrests and a rise in executions while he was president of the Tehran judiciary.

Alireza Avai was a senior judiciary official during the 1980s and the Mujahedin-e Khalq, an Iranian opposition group, accuses him of playing a role in the Islamic Republic’s execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988.

He said a recent reform of its drug laws should lead to fewer executions after the UN Secretary-General said he remained alarmed about their high number - nearly 500 last year.

The Iranian Justice Minister is a known perpetrator of the 1988 massacre of 30.000 political prisoners, one of the greatest unanswered crimes in Iran’s modern history. He was added to the EU and UK sanction’s list in 2011, and again in April last year, for human rights violations, arbitrary arrests, denials of prisoners’ rights and an increase of execution, as President of Tehran Judiciary.

NCRI - The Iranian community in Switzerland, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), on Tuesday, held a rally in front of the UN Headquarters in Geneva against Alireza Avaei, Justice Minister of the clerical regime, at the Human Rights Council.

Avaei has been directly implicated in the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners, the majority of whom were members and supporters of the main opposition movement, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), in 1988. He was a member of the Death Commission in Khuzestan Province that sent many political prisoners, including juveniles, to execution during the massacre.

Since its inception after the 1979 revolution, the clerical regime in Iran has taken advantages of the espionage charge as an effective weapon against its opponents and rivals.

So that any opposition was cracked down by the blatant force or sometimes more delicately by enforcing low, the accusation of espionage following by assassination in the most cases.

Overwhelming in internal and external fatal crises, the regime is entering to the 40th year of its time, and to tackle the crises feels like need more excuses to use spying label, so not just people and countries but animals, birds and insects, reptiles, and if possible trees and flowers are also tagged  as spying.

As the world continues to debate the recent Iranian outburst of protests, its "lack of leadership" as they claim, and the road ahead, there is no doubt in the minds of senior Iranian regime officials over who led, and continues to lead, this latest uprising that continues to rattle the very pillars of the mullahs' rule.

UN should help end impunity in Iran and throughout the world

In 1996, on behalf of the Spanish President Allende Foundation, I filed a criminal complaint in Spain, under the principles of universal jurisdiction, against Chilean Gen. Augusto Pinochet and other leaders of his military junta. The charges detailed genocide, systematic torture, politically motivated killings and terrorism. The defendants were then enjoying absolute impunity in Chile.

Iran: Woman, 65, was taken to jail by walker

Maryam Kalangari, 65, was taken to the Central Prison of Arak, in Markazi Province.

Ms. Kalangari had been previously sentenced to five months in jail by the Revolutionary Court of Arak on the charge of “disseminating propaganda against the state.”

On January 13, 2018, agents of the Implementation of the Sentences Office broke into her residence and took her to jail by a walker and despite her illness.

Ms. Kalangari suffers from various illnesses, including heart and lungs complications, arthritis and osteoporosis, and is not able to endure prison conditions.

Her brother and two sons are in jail on similar charges. They are survivors of victims of the massacre of political prisoners in 1988.
