End the silence on Iran’s human rights abuses before the current crackdown worsens

The nationwide protests in Iran, which began on December 28 in Mashhad, gave voice to the economic frustration of ordinary Iranians, but quickly expanded to slogans like “death to [President] Rouhani”, “death to the dictator”, and “reformists, conservatives: the game is over.” In short, the protesters were demanding democratic change in Iran.
To no one’s surprise, Iranian authorities responded violently, with at least 8,000 arrests and upwards of 50 deaths. The predictability of the suppression should have prepared Western policymakers to respond appropriately and effectively.
Despite such brutality, the protests have continued. Earlier this week

IRE AND FRUSTRATION OF THE IRANIAN REGIME ON THE REPORT OF THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS ON HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN IRAN

The clerical regime’s Foreign Ministry on Friday reacted to the UN Secretary-General's report on human rights violations in Iran and the massacre of the political prisoners in 1988. Foreign Ministry spokesman, Bahram Qasemi, appeared on TV network, tried to identify the sources mentioned by Antonio Guterres report prepared for the ongoing meeting of the UN Human Rights Council meeting,
as "invalid and worthless." He added that the report is based on "unreliable, false and completely invalid sources" and is politically-motivated.

Iran Human Rights Monitor – Monthly Report
February 2018

introduction
Systematic violation of human rights continued in February with 16 executions, crackdown on religious minorities, arresting of civil activists, incessant pressure on political prisoners and flogging.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2018, two women political prisoners of Evin –Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraee—were beaten up and banished to the notorious women’s Qarchak Prison, in Varamin, Tehran Province.
Protesting the illegal transfer, the two staged a hunger strike on February 3.
On the morning of Saturday, February 10, 2018, they turned their wet hunger strike into dry, as they had already vowed. Both stopped their dry hunger strike after six days but Golrokh Iraee announced that she will continue her wet hunger strike until her demands are met.
Since February 1, the two are held in horrible conditions in a small, dark room in Qarchak Prison while they are denied having telephone contacts or family visits.

Protesters rally after Iranian minister addresses UN rights body

Geneva, Reuters, February 28, 2018 - As Iran’s justice minister addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council on Tuesday, protesters rallied outside against the senior official who is on European Union and Swiss sanctions lists over alleged involvement in violations including arbitrary arrests and a rise in executions while he was president of the Tehran judiciary.
Alireza Avai was a senior judiciary official during the 1980s and the Mujahedin-e Khalq, an Iranian opposition group, accuses him of playing a role in the Islamic Republic’s execution of thousands of political prisoners in 1988.
He said a recent reform of its drug laws should lead to fewer executions after the UN Secretary-General said he remained alarmed about their high number - nearly 500 last year.

Press Release: UN Must Immediately Withdraw Invitation to Iranian Justice Minister

The Iranian Justice Minister is a known perpetrator of the 1988 massacre of 30.000 political prisoners, one of the greatest unanswered crimes in Iran’s modern history

The British Committee for Iran Freedom is shocked over the reports of Iranian Justice Minister Ali-reza Avaee’s plan to visit the United Nations headquarters in Geneva to address the UN Human Rights Council next week.
The Iranian Justice Minister is a known perpetrator of the 1988 massacre of 30.000 political prisoners, one of the greatest unanswered crimes in Iran’s modern history. He was added to the EU and UK sanction’s list in 2011, and again in April last year, for human rights violations, arbitrary arrests, denials of prisoners’ rights and an increase of execution, as President of Tehran Judiciary.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Iran, the late Ms. Asma Jahangir, documented this massacre in her latest report and said “Between July

Statement by the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Against Iran Regime's Justice Minister

Geneva
February 27, 2018
The United States is appalled to learn that the government of Iran is sending its Justice Minister, Seyyed Alireza Avaei, to address the UN Human Rights Council. Minister Avaei oversaw the summary executions of Iranians in the late 1980’s. As the recent head of the Tehran judiciary and current Minister of Justice, Avaei oversees systematic arbitrary arrests and detentions of Iranians engaging in peaceful political and civic activism, and imprisons them in a network of facilities notorious for suspicious deaths, the use of torture, and denial of medical care.

Human rights activist Behnam Mousivand, who was arrested on February 1, was allowed a visit with his mother yesterday in Evin Prison. He was taken to the prison’s yard in a car with tinted windscreens while being accompanied by three guards. Behnam Mousivand was not allowed to talk with his mother in his mother tongue. Iranian Resistance Urgent Call to Save Two Lady Political Prisoners on 11th Day of Hunger Strike

The Iranian Resistance calls to save political prisoners, Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraee, who are in a dire situation due to 11 days of hunger strike. The NCRI calls on international human rights and women's rights advocates to take urgent action to save the lives of the two political prisoners. The two young women are exposed to verbal abuse and harassment by prison authorities in addition to the effects of hunger strike.
On January 24, Atena Daemi and Golrokh Iraee were unlawfully transferred from Evin Prison to Varamin’s Qarechak Prison in retaliation for supporting the January uprising, after being brutalized on fake charges and a fabricated new case.

Iran: Human Rights Violations Continue

Iran protesters killed under torture
NCRI Staff
NCRI - Iran Human Rights Monitor has compiled a report detailing the human rights situation in Iran for the month of January 2018.
Last month, there was a huge crackdown on protesters. At the end of December, the people of Iran took to the streets because of the poor economic situation that is caused by the regime’s mishandling of the nation’s wealth. The protests quickly turned into anti-government demonstrations. The security forces violently suppressed the protesters and there were at least 50 deaths. The report also indicates that more than 8,000 protesters were arrested.
The report mentioned that teargas and water cannons were used to disperse crowds and unarmed protesters were shot at. Plainclothes agents went from home to home to arrest people and there have been reports of detainees being tortured “to the brink of death”. There have also been accounts of detainees being put into freezer rooms to force confessions out of them.

IRAN HUMAN RIGHTS MONITOR, MONTHLY REPORT – JANUARY 2018

The most noticeable development in January was the regime’s crackdown on Iran protests which started from Mashhad, the second largest city of Iran in the North East. The people took to the streets protesting against skyrocketing prices while the general public’s purchasing power is next to nothing.
Iran Human Rights Monitor published a special report on violations of the rights of Iran protesters. This bulletin just supplements it.
In addition to the arrest of more than 8,000 people and the killing of at least 50 during the nationwide protests, other systematic violations of human rights continued in January.
This bulletin makes brief references to rights abuses including the amputation of a thief’s hand, 13 executions, crackdown on minorities particularly Dervishes, continuing arbitrary arrests and ill-treatment of political prisoners.

WHY DID THE IRANIAN PROTESTERS TARGET THE FRIDAY PRAYER IMAM OFFICES, THE REPRESENTATIVES OF KHAMENEI

By Mahdavi Nasim
Since 1979, the Islamic regime of the Mullahs rules Iran. Part of the government's internal politics is being endorsed by “Friday prayer imams” who are formally regime’s leader representatives. The supreme leader of the regime gives his general lines to them and they announce it at Friday prayers, which is a religious ritual.
Over the past 39 years of the mullahs' rule, the people of Iran strongly oppose the Khamenei representatives (Friday prayer imam) People are aware that the levers of Khamenei's power are not just military forces but Friday prayer imams too. Therefore, during the recent uprising, protesters

Iran’s latest crackdown on dissent is fueled by UN silence over past crimes

Among analysts and commentators who have been paying attention to the state of affairs in the Islamic Republic of Iran, there is widespread agreement that the fallout from recent protests, which spread to as many as 140 cities across the country, has only just begun.
The ongoing fallout takes two equally important forms. In the first place, the repression of those protests and the regime’s failure to address their economic, social and political demands means that public grievances are continuing to simmer and will certainly bubble to the surface again, perhaps with even

Disinformation Campaign of Iran Regime to Discredit Mek

Iran Focus
London, 30 Jan - It is no secret that since it stole power in 1979, the Iranian Regime continually attempts to discredit the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) both domestically and globally.
There are numerous accounts, by both the MEK and various Western institutions, of Iran’s so-called Intelligence Ministry (MOIS) targeting the MEK’s reputation in a “long-running and sophisticated information campaign”, “coordinated and financed by the Iranian intelligence services” to discredit the MEK.
Domestically
The Iranian Regime is scared of the MEK’s popularity in Iran and uses the MOIS to discredit the MEK among the Iranian people. As the mullahs control/censor most the media in Iran, it’s pretty easy for them to spread disinformation about the MEK, but luckily the Iranian people know the truth.
Internationally
The Iranian Regime is scared that the MEK has significant support outside of Iran, as they know that the more foreign governments who support the MEK and not the
