Since 1979, the Islamic regime of the Mullahs rules Iran. Part of the government's internal politics is being endorsed by “Friday prayer imams” who are formally regime’s leader representatives. The supreme leader of the regime gives his general lines to them and they announce it at Friday prayers, which is a religious ritual.
