Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran

I. Introduction 1. Since she took up her mandate, the Special Rapporteur has observed several developments that could lead to positive changes in the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran. These include the adoption of the Charter on Citizens’ Rights and the announcement that an implementation body of the Charter will be established, as well as the recent strides made by Parliament in the reform of drug laws in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
