Iran: prisoner sew lips shut in hunger strike

An inmate identified as Mehdi Keshavarz sewed his own mouth shut five days ago to protest issuing excessive bail which he cannot afford.
The hunger striking political prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement on July 19, 2017 by order of prosecutor in Borujerd Prison, west of Iran.
While visiting the prison the city’s prosecutor ordered him to unsew his mouth. When Mehdi Keshavarz refused to accept, the prosecutor told him “even if you die it is not important for us.”
He subsequently ordered to transfer Mehdi Keshavarz to solitary confinement.
According to informed sources, the official has previous records of abusing inmates in some cases has led to the prisoners’ committing suicide.
